Well now . . .

it's amazing what one can accomplish when the Craft Room is clean and organized.

Here are a few projects that I've done this week . . . but first, I must say, photography is not my forte . . .never has been . . .probably never will be . . . so, if the pics are fuzzy . . . .I apologize. Really, I tried to photoshop them . . . to no avail.

Next . . . now that my craft room is so organized, I've found lots of new things to play with! (okay, so they aren't necessarily "new" . . .I just re-discovered them while putting stuff away)

For the first few cards . . . they're definitely my style . . .kinda whimiscal cute . . .quick and easy.
The Watermelon ribbon would be one of those re-discovered things. Had to use it, so here's the Great Impressions Monkey enjoying a nice slice of watermelon. Barely noticeable, but I did create a watermelon background using the Hero Arts ClearDesign "W" set. Sentiment is by Purple Onion (yes. . .I finally got around to cutting all the stamps from my Self-Addressed kits).

Loved this little Flower Cart from Gina K. . . . stamped it using VersaMagic Red Brick, colored with pencils. The cloud stencil and grass are from Rosie's Roadshow and the flower background and butterflies are from the Floral Design clear set by Memory Box. Sentiment is by Lockhart.For this card I used the Floral Design set again. These stamps are quite possibly the nicest clear stamps I've used. They hold ink very well (I used VersaColor and VersaMagic inks here) and they really give a crisp impression. Sentiment is from the Hero Arts "W" set . . . .what? it was still on my table. :D

Moving right along . . .I've attempted to find a Collage Artist in me . . but like photography, I just don't think it's my forte. But I tried . . .and maybe with some more practice, I'll end up with projects that sort of, might, hopefully one day look like those over at Vintage Papers. (she's right . . .gothic arch cards are addicting.)

Stamp is by Stamper's Anonymous . . . one from the Tim Holtz line. The music sheet paper, velvet ric rac and flower were in one of my SA kits and the cardstock is from My Mind's Eye.Yep . . .another Tim Holtz stamp. I colored with chalk (another re-discovery during the cleaning process). The arch is cut from My Mind's Eye cardstock. I stamped the postage cancellations using Brushed Corduroy distress ink . . .those stamps are from Purple Onion. Little bit of velvet ribbon, a flower and a button . . viola . . .call it a card.

Yet another Tim Holtz stamp . . .I really like his images . . . just never really know what to do with them. . . but I'm going to just keep working with them . . .

First, I cut out the arch and stamped the King using Versafine Vintage Sepia ink. The cardstock was orignally a cream color . . .but I decided to change it. Sooooo . .. I applied some Sunburst Radiant Rain, spritzed it with water and then added Butterscotch Color Wash. Wasn't too thrilled so I added a smidge of Terra Cotta Color Wash. . . .and sprizted more water to get the colors to move around and blend. The picture doesn't show it very well, but the Radiant Rain did add just enough shimmer.

When the piece dried, I noticed that the Vintage Sepia ink faded to a really cool color. I liked it, but thought it was too plain. . . .so I masked the King and stamped Scroll Tapestry from Penny Black in Butterscotch Adirondack ink. The card is Prism Cardstock . . .Papaya Puree Dark, I think . . . but I thought it needed a background so I stamped a Harlequin background using Butterscotch Adirondack ink and then edged the card with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink.

The sentiment at the top is from PaperBag Studios. I stamped it on ivory stock and cut it apart. Edged each strip with Brushed Corduroy ink and tried to place it randomly. Remember, I'm trying to get out of the "symmetrical" habit. . . .very hard for me to do . . .

Okay . . . I also took the time to play with all of my Color Wash and Radiant Rain Daubers (which by the way you CAN apply them direct to a stamp!) and made a few tags . . . here they are:

Let's see . . .the Color Wash was Mushroom, Espresso, and Terra Cotta. . . not too sure I like it. I stamped the images (yes . . .more Tim Holtz) using Walnut Stain Distress ink . . . eh . . it's okay.

For this tag, I used Terra Cotta and Butterscotch Color Wash. The Harlequin was stamped using Hot Cinnamon Radiant Rain. The Script Background was stamped using Cranberry Adirondack ink and the flowers (or are those weeds??) were stamped using VersaFine Onyx Black.

I don't know . . . Lettuce and Butterscotch Color Wash, I think . . .by this time, I was spraying just about anything on my table . . .I love this stuff and the Radiant Rain, too! . . .Stamp is by PaperBag Studios . . .I used Vintage Sepia Versafine ink.

Yep . . .Lettuce Color Wash and Olive Vine Radiant Rain. I also spritzed the tag quite heavily with water to really blend the color wash and radiant rain. The Harlequin was stamped using Olive Vine Radiant Rain. I used Pesto Adirondack ink for the Script Background and the Winged Boy.

That's all . . .for now . . . I still have two days left of vacation and plan on stamp stamp stamping!

And I just realized how long this post is . . . yikes.

I was blurfing a bit today and found this link on Alma's Blog. All I can say is "Wow."

And so it begins . . .

. . .the daunting task of cleaning and reorganizing my craft room.




The above picture is my work table. On that 6' table, I had about one square foot of room to actually work.



Here's a different angle of my work table and that horrifying mess across from it is the . . .well, the "catch-all" table. (And boy oh boy did it catch everything.)

Since I'm on vacation this week, and Mercury is still in Retrograde, I thought it would probably be a good idea to take advantage of this time off as well as the "clean and de-clutter" energy.


It has taken three full days to go from total disaster to this:

Look! The "catch-all" table is gone!

It has been replaced by new cubbies and cabinets!

Look! I have the full 6' of table to work on!

Ink pads and paper trimmers hanging on the wall . . .so much closer and easier to reach!

Punches also hanging on the wall and much easier to get to.

Yep . . .three full days . . .and worth every minute. The best part? I still have a full week of vacation left to actually sit in there and craft! Yahoo!

Still fixated . . .

. . . on those scalloped punches (and googly eyes). I just love the new stamps from Gina K. that border the punches. They make great background stamps, too . . .those samples will be posted soon.

For the Crabby Dancer card, I stamped the crab using VersaFine Onyx Black onto Classic Red Prism cardstock and punched him out with my Mega Scalloped Circle. Next, I stamped the Dots using Rocket Red Brilliance ink on white stock. Then used my Giga Scalloped circle punch. The dots stamp is from the Large Circle set. Attached the crab to the white circle and mounted it on the card. Added the ribbon and, of course, the googly eyes.

All stamps by Gina K. Designs. Patterned paper by Kaliedoscope.

The Pelican card was just as fast and easy as the crab card. First, I stamped the pelican using VersaFine. Then colored with Prismacolor Pencils. Used the Mega Scalloped Square punch. Adhered that to a piece of Intense Teal cardstock from Prism. I tore the bottom edge of the teal cardstock before wrapping the string around. The string was from a manilla tag. Used foam tape to adhere to the card. Stamped the sentiment using Turquoise Gem VersaMagic ink.

All stamps by Gina K. Designs. Patterned paper is Seaside Dizzy Dots from Lasting Impressions.

Finally, for the Bee Daisy card, I stamped the Medium Circle Doodle using VersaFine Vintage Sepia. Stamped the Bee inside the frame and colored with PrismaColor pencils. Then, I used the Super Jumbo Circle punch. I stamped the frame too close to the edge, so part of the stamped frame was cut off when I punched out the circle. Bummer!

Instead of starting over, I just kept going. I stamped the Scalloped Doodle Frame on Classic Red stock from Prism and used the Mega Scalloped Circle punch. When I layered the bee on the scalloped circle, it didn't look quite right with the frame being cut off. . .so for a quick fix, I hacked off one side of the circles and made it look like "I meant to do that."

For the sentiment, I punched out the Bookplate QuicKutz and then stamped "just for you." (If you're looking for QuicKutz, by the way, go here. Excellent prices and service!)

Then I layered, and layered and layered some more (thank you Julee for your great samples using lots of patterned paper! So inspiring!). Viola! A card. . . almost. Final touches include the tiniest bit of Yellow Stickles in the flower center, Clear Glaze Pen on the flower petals, and a little bit of Stardust Stickles on the Bee's wings. There . . .now it's a card.

Stamps by Stampendous (Bee), Cat's Pajamas (sentiment), and Gina K. (frames). Patterned paper by A2Z Essentials.

And about that Bee . . . couldn't resist it. I actually bought it at The Stampin' Post in Temecula. Turns out there are a bunch of bees (and monkeys!) . . . ***sigh*** I have them on order . . . just had to have them . . . .

Seafood Surprise!

I just love this little guy!

First, I stamped the Large Oval Doodle Frame with Lime VersaColor. Then I stamped Seafood Surprise with Black Onyx VersaFine. Colored with Prismacolor pencils.

I did use a Colorless Blender on the Lobster . . .everytime I try to blend oranges and reds with color, it always ends up too dark. The Colorless Blender worked perfect for this.

Punched out Seafood Surprise with my Mega Oval. Punched out a Giga Scalloped Oval from Prism Cardstock and layered Seafood Surprise. Adhered the ribbon to the card, adhered the ovals, and stamped the sentiment. Final step was to add those Google Eyes, which I adhered with Mini Glue Dots.

All stamps by Gina K Designs. Patterned paper is Kaliedoscope. Finished card size is 4" x 4".

Happy Summer

For this card, I used the Scribble Garden clear set from Memory Box. I stamped the branch with Tea Leaves VersaMagic ink and the flowers with Pink Grapefruit VersaMagic. For the butterflies, I used Mango Madness VersaMagic and Black Onyx VersaFine.

I really like this set because it has the "solid" stamp (the butterfly wings) and the "outline" stamp (the butterfly body) . Since it's a clear set, lining up the stamps is easy-peasy! (Thanks Deb for that term!)

The butterfly trails were hand-doodled using a fine tip black marker. The sentiment is also by Memory Box. Patterned paper is by Sassafraslass. Finished card size is 5.5" x 4.25."

Scrap-o-Dex

Have you seen this thing?? It is soooooo cool! It's like a Rolodex . . .only the base, shown above, is more sturdy (and you can paint it, decoupage it, Alcohol ink it, cover it with fabric or paper, stamp it . . .) and the pages are made from chipboard. . . good chipboard. . . white on one side and gray on the other. Here's a sample of a decorated one:

And it comes packaged in a Gable Box! Sooooooo alterable! And refill pages are available, too. I think one of these goodies is going home with me today . . .

It Started With . . .

. . . the Card Concept I saw on Kim's Blog. Then I saw that she had a Card Concept Archive . . .so I poked around in there. . . and then I started "blurfing" (Blog Surfing -- thank you Julie for that term) . . . and was soooo inspired by Poetic Artistry . . .

I actually finished three cards! Yahoo!

The Strawberry Stamp and Sentiment are from Hero Arts ("S" ClearDesign set). The Wire Tap Background stamp (behind the strawberries) is from Art Declassified. Green Polka Dot paper is from Sassafraslass, Pink strip is from Prism (Razzleberry Light), Green Scalloped Circle was punched from Die Cuts with a View cardstock. The Card Concept Sketch is #3 in the Archives from Paper Squares.

Not sure if the picture shows it very well (photography is not my forte) but on the pink strip, I randomly stamped the strawberry with my Castaway Ink Pad and let it dry really well. Heated the cardstock with my heat tool so the color would "bleach" out. Then, I randomly stamped the berry again with VersaMark for a tone-on-tone look. I used PrismaColor pencils to color the strawberries.

For the "Time to Celebrate" card, I used the same Card Concept Sketch. All stamps are by Rosie's Roadshow. And I admit that I started becoming fixated on those scalloped circle punches! Card base is paper from Sassafraslass, Brown strip is from Prism (Suede Brown Dark -- one of my very favorite colors from them . . .at the moment.), Blue scalloped circle . . . I think it might be Bazzill . . .

Used my PrismaColor pencils again . . .and sponged the white circle and sentiment tag with Spiced Marmalade Distress ink.

The Ice Cream card was inspired by Poetic Artistry. I just loved the colors and patterns and layout she used to create her Birthday Bees card. . . .and it was hard for me at first not to use those same colors. . .they are just so bright and cheery! But alas, I wanted to have strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate ice cream so I chose a more pastel pallette.

The ice cream stamp and patterned paper are from Memory Box. I actually stamped the ice cream three times to get the three scoops. The strawberry and vanilla scoops are cut out. Of course, I colored with my PrismaColor pencils . . . love those things! Solid Pink paper . . . .um, it was in my Box o' Scraps . . .so I'm not sure what brand it is. Used those good old fashioned cloud scissors for the scallops.

Off to the craft room . . . I'm going to see if these projects were a fluke or if my creativity really came back from vacation . . .

Welcome Rain . . .

. . . Radiant Rain, that is!

Yep! All twelve shimmery colors of the NEW Radiant Rain Daubers from Luminarte have arrived!

Oooh . . .they are so pretty! I shook every bottle to see the colors mixed . . . and to make sure that there were ball bearings in the bottle for easy mixing. (Yes. . .my arm is sore).

I don't have pictures yet, but the colors are the same as the Twinkling H2O colors.

Bubba Couldn't Have Said it Better

We've definitely got hot weather here in San Diego! Wait . . .who's Bubba? Oh . . . he's one of Rosie's new critters! Yes, he (along with all the other new critters and accessories) are on the way! Soooooooooo stinkin' cute they are! I can't wait till they arrive! Check back soon for updates. . . these adorable guys will only be available at the retail store.

Seven Random Facts

Okay . . .I was tagged by Alma to list seven random facts about me. . . so here they are:

1. I am the baby of 10 children. There are 23 years between my eldest sibling and me.

2. I have a thing for counting . . .go up a flight of stairs, I count the steps. . .weird, huh?

3. Before owning a stamp store, I worked in Clinical Research.

4. I love dogs . . . all types of dogs. . . big dogs, little dogs . . .doesn't matter . . . if it has four legs, fur and barks, I fall in love instantly.

5. I'm allergic to strawberries and pistachios. (Big bummer, cuz I love both!)

6. I love coffee. Good old fashioned coffee with milk . . . not cream, no sugar, no frou frou coffee drinks. . . just coffee.

7. Unless I absolutely have to go somewhere, I will stay in my jammies all day on Sunday.
