Paper Flowers

I've been seeing these paper flowers a lot lately and I just love them! They can be used for just about anything . . .scrapbooking, mixed media, cards . . .Click here to see the tutorial on Mercy's blog.

When I made my flowers, I used Nesties instead of a scallop punch and instead of using cardstock, I used pages from an old book and sheet music.

For the blue flower, I inked the pages with Broken China Distress Ink and used the Pinking Circles Nestabilities.

For the flower next to the blue one, I used the Peony Nestabilities and then sprayed it with Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz, which is a must have . . .adds sparkle without altering the color. I used a smaller Peony die for the small music sheet flower.

For the orange flower, I used the Dahlia Nestabilities and sprayed it with Gingersnap Smooch Spritz. I used a smaller Dahlia die for the other small flower.

A couple of tips for you . . . using lighter weight paper was easier and I also found that it made for a very nice crumply, ruffly flower. Besides that, I was able to cut all 10 pieces out at one time.

Also, I used a paper piercer and put the brad in prior to crumpling each layer. I just couldn't see myself trying to put it all back together after all the crumpling . . .

Thanks for stopping by today! Now . . . go make some flowers!

Everyday is Valentine's Day

Before I explain the blog post title, I must give credit to Sugarlump Studios and Maya Road . . . two blogs where I found a whole lot of inspiration for many of the pages in the little book I made.

So . . . I really wanted to make a mini book for my hubby for Valentine's Day. I started it early enough, but got stuck when it came time to start "junking" up the pages. Hence, the two blogs listed above . . . really, they were a life saver in giving me a jump start.

Anyway, I told my dear, sweet hubby that I was making a book for him, but he was going to receive it late. His response was, "It's okay, Honey. Everyday is Valentine's Day with you."

I'm totally keeping him.

It was hard to take pics of it, but here it is, all finished:
Thanks for stopping by today! The "what I used" list is pretty extensive, so if you have any questions, feel free to post a comment or email me.

Painting . . .

There's not been a whole lot of cardmaking in the studio lately. Instead, I've been painting. And making a big ol' mess. Sometimes, ya just gotta get your hands dirty, ya know?

So . . . what I've done here is started with the Medium Envelope Journal by 7 Gypsies. I took it apart and started painting the envelopes . . . and decided halfway through that I was going to add pages in between the envelopes. So then, I started painting pages:

I'm guessing that by the time I'm all done, it's going to be a pretty chunky journal . . .

What I used:

Medium Envelope Journal by 7 Gypsies
Fabriano Cardstock
Black Gesso
Claudine Hellmuth Studio Paints - Classic Teal, Smidge of Blue, Sky Blue and Traditional Tan
Snow Cap Adirondack Pigment ink
Tuxedo Black Memento ink
Grid Background stamp by Studio 490
Tattoo Flourish stamp by Tim Holtz
Alphabet stamp set by Inkadinkado
Sheet Music, pages from an old book

I'll post progress as it comes together . . . thanks for stopping by today!

A Rainbow of Roses

So . . . I'll be having a Make-n-Take tomorrow at the Shoppe on how to make Grungepaper Roses. Wendy was right. They are totally addicting.

I stayed up very late one night making all of these . . .just to see what they would look like in a variety of colors.I don't think it much matters what color you make a Grungepaper Rose . . . they are just cool.

Thanks for stopping by today!

I received a prize from Maya Road a while back . . .it was a wonderful box of goodies!

Here are two little books I've made using some of the stuff:

For the "About Sisters" book, I used a chipboard coaster album, chipboard flowers and heart ribbon slide by Maya Road, Nestabilities, stamps by Studio 490, Squiggly Ink and Rubber Soul, patterned paper by Cosmo Cricket, Cream Puff cardstock by Prism, Fired Brick, Aged Mahogany, Peeled Paint and Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink, Rich Cocoa Memento Ink, Pearl Brad by The Paper Company, self-adhesive pearls by KaiserCraft, border punch by Fiskars, and a variety of ribbons and trims from my stash.

For the "My Sister, My Friend" book I used the rest of the chipboard coaster book by Maya Road, Nestabilities, Patterned Cardstock by Rubber Soul, stamps by Rubber Soul, Hero Arts, and Inkadinkado, Shabby Shutters Distress Ink, Rich Cocoa Memento Ink, Grungeboard, Claudine Hellmuth paint, tiny little rhinestone jewels, and a variety of buttons, flowers and ribbon from my stash.

I really enjoyed creating these little books and hope that I captured the colors and styles of my sisters . . . although, I still need to make four more . . . one for each sister . . . told ya I had a lot of them!

And Now Back . . .

. . . to our regularly scheduled program.

Soooooo, last weekend (after Julie's Mixed Media Class --- which was a blast!), Shari & I jumped on a plane and headed up to San Francisco. . . remember? I promised I'd post pictures of the projects we made . . .

(pssst . . . hey Shari! I need your stuff so I can take pics!)

Well . . .here they are:

This little house was designed by Alma De La Rosa. We used stamps from American Art Stamp. Do you love that tree stamp, or what?! AND . . . the house actually OPENS!

This treasure box was made using Cosmo Cricket stuff . . . yes, I ordered the paper. (I admit, this got a little bit munched on the plane ride home . . . but I'll be able to fix it!)
It's a Dog Tag . . . using stuff from Ten Seconds Studio . . . LOVED this stuff . . . lots of it is on the way!

A keychain using stuff from Hampton Art . . . they have a great Glue Pad . . and I was quite sparkly when I was done with this project . . .glitter, glitter everywhere, on my face, in my hair . . .you get the idea.

A Junk Journal using stuff by 7 Gypsies. Their Binderie Punch is something else! Battery operated and goes through board book like butter!

A Travel Journal using stuff by TPC Studios. I really like their embellishments and paper . . . yes, I ordered their paper . . . and embellishments . . . where am I going to put it all?! Perhaps that's why the spinner landed on "frantic"?

Did you think I forgot to type in some notes about these cards? Oh baby . . . this was a marathon of a class! Eight cards in 90 minutes! It was great fun and I felt as though I had been re-introduced to Rubber Soul. . . nice clean lines, easy to work with, and great quotes. Yep . . .lots of stamps (and more paper --- egads!) are on the way.

Finally, my Grungebook. I'm very proud of this project . . . by the time class was over, I thought I was going to fall over . . . . Mr. Tim Holtz (yep! he was the instructor, LIVE and in person) said that this may have been a little ambitious for a 90 minute class . . . he was right. The class lasted 2.5 hours . . . and worth absolutely every second!

Thanks for stopping by today!
